August 7,2024 Tallinn Estonia

We woke to bright warm weather.

.

Early coffee and muffins in our room then light lunch in Marketplace.

All ready to explore…

We last visited Tallinn in 2016 and vaguely remembered how quaint the old town was. What we didn’t remember is how much walking we must have done back then. The old town is really beautiful…and really spread out. Thank goodness an enterprising young man, Victor, was on hand as we departed the shuttle bus.

Victor’s bike is electric…assisted by human turbo boost.

The word “Charming” is a less than apt descriptor for Tallinn.

This monument marks the Estonian War for Independence. The Russians invaded in 1918…the war lasted about two years and with aid from the UK…the Estonians were victorious.

We toured the old town …then Victor pedal assisted his bike up to two lovely viewpoints.

The Baltic Sea region is a primary source of Amber. We noted Amber shops in Gdansk too.

.

No clue what this is…I do think it’s cool…

This shop differentiates itself from all the the other Amber shops by advertising access to a restroom. #marketing

We were surprised to learn that the name of this church is The Alexander Nevesky Cathedral…it is Eastern Orthodox and was constructed from 1894-1900.

.

I did go inside…no photos allowed

.

We eventually left old town and rode through some residential neighborhoods.

This is Toompark…it is lovely with playgrounds, soccer fields and picnic areas…all of which I failed to photograph …

After the park…we circumnavigated the old town…

…Stopping for a walk through this community garden dedicated to a medieval nun:Hildegard.

The garden is beautiful, fragrant and well tended.

…Here’s the one photo that I took outside of Old Town…

Back on the ship, we had gelato and wrote postcards to the LoveBugs.

Spent some time on the balcony …then we got ready for a very special dinner…

.

…in the Captains’s Quarters

We were delighted to see these chargers …Herbert explained that once Crystal moved away from fixed dining…it became impossible to continue to use them.

Grilled Australian Lamb Chop & Chilean Sea Bass

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Carlos came by during dessert and played two lovely songs

We were 30 seconds late to comedian Mark Palmer’s show, so we sat in the back and greatly enjoyed his humor.

After the show we spent some quality time in the Avenue. Once again…standing room only.

😊

This photo was taken at 11:36 pm (yes, 11:36)…the absolutely perfick end to an absolutely perfick day.

Thanks for following along🩵
