Another fabulous day in Big Sky country. Breakfast included cheddar, bacon pancakes with maple syrup…beyond delicious, coffee and pastries. We had to carb up for our fishing adventure.

We sure enjoyed our day on the Bitterroot

Let’s catch some trout

Our guide, Dave, fetched us at 9:30 and we set out for the Bitterroot River. The weather was perfect, about 77 degrees with a slight cloud cover. The Bitterroot Valley as experienced from an inflatable boat is stunning.

Along the Bitterroot

Our six hours on the river were among the most wonderful we’ve ever experienced …perhaps because, as it turns out, Timmy is a natural fly fisherman…catching 6 beautiful fish, 3 rainbow trout and 3 cutthroat trout.

It must be the biggest fish ever

We floated for 9 miles

That’s a cute fish

I caught no fish and was quite content relaxing in the back, documenting Timmy’s glory.

We enjoyed drinks on the Lodge rooftop with several lovely couples. Meeting interesting folks along the way is an additional perk of traveling.

Dinner. Oh my goodness, dinner. Timmy choose potato leek soup and a butter lettuce salad with oranges, toasted almonds, local chèvre and hearts of palm as his starters. I opted for sautéed shrimp and a roasted beet salad. Mains: Timmy waxed poetic about his seared and roasted boneless quail breasts, with root vegetable hash, spinach, pickled  cherries (seriously?), marinated blue cheese, game jus and a spectacular Pinot Noir: Châteaux La  Rabotine, Sancerre, Loire, 2015. I know, a Sancerre Pinot from Loire Valley??? It was beyond special.  I really enjoyed my pan roasted Idaho trout with asparagus, artichoke hearts, mushroom salsa verde and a Spanish sparkling; Raventos i Blanc, Conca del Riu Anoia, 2015.
