Yesterday’s onboard events were sobering, and it is remarkable to me that some humans (well this human anyway) can be both sad and chastened in one moment and elated and filled with delight just a few hours later. This dichotomy truly is a puzzle. By evening my unease had dissipated and I was filled with joy once again. Joyful because after my walk around the ghost town, I had a wonderful facial in the salon, after which we enjoyed canapés on our veranda overlooking the harbor. I love port-side staterooms because I’m fascinated by the activity. When they were very young, my sons were mesmerized by construction vehicles, they could spend hours watching them – especially the earth movers. That’s how I am when we are in port. I love the hustle and bustle. We enjoyed cocktails in the Cove, a yummy dinner in Waterside and then a super show in the Starlite Club. The show is billed as “Showband and Friends” and it’s described as a Spotlight Show. It was terrific. Each of the wonderful musicians were showcased. They are all very accomplished but my favorite is Italo Sales on guitar…that young man is the real deal. The “friends” referred to in the billing are vocalist Johanna Jolson and violinist Maryna B. Again, lovely accomplished artists. After the show we had a brief conversation with drummer and bandmaster, Dave Price – a lovely person.
