Our experiences with IcelandAir and then arriving at Keflavik Airport were truly a pleasure. And that’s not at all attributable to the fact that we have been travel deprived for 20 months. We were the only plane arriving at 6:00 am. Deplaning, fetching our luggage, going through passport check, vaccination check and customs took less than 20 minutes…has to be an all time record. We were met by two Crystal Cruise line reps who assisted with our luggage and handed us off to our driver. We booked our transfers and a pre-cruise stay through Crystal Cruises because this is our first travel during an ongoing worldwide health emergency, everything is in a state of flux, and we are willing to pay the premium for hand holding and peace of mind. I said to Tim “you can’t put a price on that peace of mind” his reply “well actually Crystal did”…funny guy, my Timmy. …anyway, our experience with Crystal’s in person customer service has always been positive.
Here’s another photo of sunrise over Greenland from the plane. The sky show was worth staying awake for.
Keflavik airport has some cool art … this crew greeted Tim as he walked to our car.
The reception team at the Hotel Borg were welcoming, friendly and professional. We were quickly checked in. The hotel’s location is perfect, right in the city center- across from a pretty park and the Parliament House. We are in a corner room which affords us two small walk out balconies (perfect for checking the weather). My favorite thing? The bathroom…it’s a good size and the floor has radiant heat! I love, love it. The shower is enormous with a super large rain head. The bath products are Molton Brown and I love and hate the lighted make-up mirror. We slept until about 3:30 and then headed off to meet up with David from “Wake Up Reykjavik”. David is an absolutely charming young man who guided us on The Reykjavik Food Walk. This small group tour was a wonderful introduction to the city and one of the best tours of its kind that we’ve experienced in our travels. More about all the fun we had later.
