As you may remember, I aspire to minimalism. I’m not easily attached to things, as evidenced by the fact that last year I was able to give away a house full of really nice furniture, lovely rugs and beautiful art. I gave those items away without a single glance backwards…well maybe I glanced twice at the dining room mirror as it was carted away. I loved that mirror. Anyway, my point is that I’m not an accumulator of things, I don’t have “collections” and I really do not like clutter. At all. No one would or could ever accuse me of being a hoarder. During the first year of this pandemic, we spent a lot of time watching home improvement/makeover TV shows and I was amazed at the amount of “stuff” some folks had in their pre-makeover homes. Like so…much…stuff. Anyway, while I definitely do not have a “stuff” problem, I have a photo problem. Yes, a photo problem. I hoard photos. I take lots and lots of photos. Multiple shots of the same object…move two spaces back…more shots…move two spaces closer, more shots …of the same object. And then I cannot decide which one I like best, so I swipe right and left on my iPad…comparing each photo to the one next to it…like at the Ophthalmologist’s office. …you know how they continuously swipe the lenses until a decision is made on the lens that provides the clearest vision? Well I just cannot ever seem to get to that clarity. I love my pics and I love taking photos. And I really and truly have the toughest time deleting any photo that is not clearly defective. Yes, I know, that makes me a photo hoarder.
So in my next life I’d like to be a photographer, in fact I really don’t plan on waiting until reincarnation to pursue the avocation – just as soon as we come out the other side of this pandemic – my intent is to learn photography. I’d like guidance on purchasing a quality camera, and then intensive instruction on its use. But not simply the technical side of photography – I’d like assistance with the artistic side too. You know how folks immerse themselves in weeklong cooking classes? Well, I’d like to immerse my self in a comprehensive photo class. If you have a suggestion, please leave it in the comment section below this post.
Anyway, my objective here is to share some photos that I took on our recent sail away from NYC on Crystal Symphony. And also share a photo of the photo of the New York Skyline that we purchased while onboard Symphony from Gennadiy Skorokhod, Master Photographer.
We purchased Gennadiy Skorokhod’s photo of the World Trade Center…taken from approximately the same vantage point as mine. We are having it shipped to our home in Sarasota… I have what I think is a perfect location for it…I’ll post a photo to our Instagram account (@travelingwithtimmy) when we hang it later this month. Here is Gennadiy with Timmy and the photo.
Speaking of Instagram, could you give us a follow? Our two oldest Long Island granddaughters each have thousands, I kid you not- thousands of followers, how can we claim to be cool with less than two hundred?
