If we don’t engage a guide, we enjoy touring on Hop On Hop Off busses. We get a sense of the city and can visit major landmarks and attractions in an efficient manner.
We loved today’s ride through Athens’ streets. Tons of traffic, especially scooters. Highly entertaining watching the scooters navigate around the cars and busses.
We passed through an interesting street with lots of interesting shops and shoppers.
It seemed that wherever the bus took us, the Acropolis was in the background.
We were happy to see the Olympic Stadium again. On our previous visit our guide walked us through it.
When we were here in 2014, we didn’t have time for the Acropolis Museum. It is wonderful and we highly recommend it.
Athena’s owl.
These beauties greet visitors at the entrance.
The Museum itself is a great work of art.
The battle of the Centaurs. There were quite a few battles.
This Kore is my favorite.
When we were last here the site was undergoing refurbishment and views were obstructed.
I love this decoration…forget what it’s called. It is an embellishment on top of the Parthenon.
Wonderful detail on these sculptures.
Here’s the back of the previous photo
Friezes line the Temple.
Taking a break. Please note the Parthenon behind Tim.
Beautiful columns held up the Temple
Here we are under the Museum.
After leaving the Museum we strolled around the neighborhood near our hotel. We really are in a wonderful location…minutes from the Acropolis, Hadrian’s Gate is at the end of our street and there are dozens of restaurants, cafes and shops.
Hadrian’s Gate
Just behind the Gate lies the ruins of the Temple of Zeus.
We are working on our selfie game.
Timmy’s resting on some old rocks.
We shared a delicious salad and wrote postcards to the lovebugs at Plakiostissa, a sidewalk cafe near our hotel.
We returned to our room at the lovely Ava Hotel to find this sparkling wine waiting for us.
Timmy’s napping, I’m updating the blog, life is pretty terrific.
