We were docked in Gibraltar from 8 am to 1 pm and decided not to leave the ship. The cold, the clouds and the monkeys all contributed to our decision to stay on board. We enjoyed a late risers breakfast in the Trident Grill.
Blintzes for me.
Pancakes for Timmy.
This adorable couple have been married for 72 years. He’s 98, she’s 96.
#life #goals
After breakfast we visited the Library for our puzzle fix.
A few hours later we made our way back to deck 12 for lunch in Marketplace. Every day there is a freshly prepared pasta dish on offer.
After lunch we headed to the pool deck for sail away. The advertised poolside musical entertainment did not appear. Who could fault the musicians? It was beyond chilly. Once again my Valencia purchase proved useful.
That’s the flag of Gibraltar.
Timmy took this pic of The Rock.
The afternoon found us in the Hollywood Theatre for a Veteran’s day activity. Taps was played, a Colonel and a General spoke briefly. Then folks in the audience were invited to share memories of their time in service to our country. Some of the remembrances brought tears to my eyes. Both my dad and Tim served in the US Navy. My dad rarely spoke about his time during WWII. He and several football buddies enlisted the day after Pearl Harbor. Here’s the only story I know connected to my Dad’s service: Dad had two very good friends that he served with, and when they parted ways, each fellow took out a dollar bill and they all signed each bill with the date. Over time Dad lost touch with his shipmates. One day more than 40 years later, he was playing golf in the Weekly Scramble at his golf community, and a new to the group person says “Artie? Artie Rogers?” That person was Eddie, who opened his wallet and retrieved a one dollar bill. Dad retrieved a similar bill, one that he’d carried and transferred from wallet to wallet for more than 40 years. These two former shipmates enjoyed the most wonderful of reunions. Eddie, also widowed, had recently moved into Dad’s community. Those two spent the next 5 or 6 years palling around, golfing and traveling together, until Eddie passed.

Yummy appetizers
So we both ordered Duck mains. I requested the salad entree…Timmy had the Classic choice…imagine my surprise when my “lighter” dish appeared …you decide…which is the diet version?
Evening entertainment was super: Bret Cave masterfully treated us to Elton John and Billy Joel covers. He also deftly handled a group of women who had begun drinking at 10:30 am. How do I know this? They were seated near us at breakfast!
All in all another wonderful day on our beautiful home away from home.
